Using the Metadata or Description based file renaming option allows advanced users to incorporate file metadata values into the filename during the rename process. The process is similar to merge printing with a word processor. Any metadata field can be inserted into the filename including user defined fields, EXIF, IPTC, and ID3 field data.

For example, using this option it is easy to rename a group JPEG files with EXIF metadata to include the make/model of the camera used, the date the photograph was taken and a position in a sequence. Another example would be to prefix a group of file names with the Subject and Title of the respective files (if the simple Dublin Core fields are in use).
